MP Floor Test: Digvijay Singh hints Kamal Nath govt may collapse, says 'doesn't have numbers to survive'
In the thick of political crisis in the state of Madhya Pradesh, senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh has stated that Kamal Nath led government does not have the numbers to pull through floor test.
Talking to India Today on Friday, the Congress leader said, "After resignations of 22 MLAs were accepted, theKamal Nath govt does not have the numbers to survive a trust vote." "Don't think the Kamal Nath government will survive," Digvijaya Singh said.
Before the floor test in Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Friday, Digvijay Singh launched an attack on the BJP and blamed the party of planning the fall of the Congress government. "It's a case of majority government reduced to minority through the use of money and power," Digvijaya Singh said.
In the midst of political turbulence, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath had earlier stated, "Why should I prove my majority? Mine is a working government. In past 15 months, we have proved our majority on three occasions. If anyone is standing on the road and claiming that we don't have majority, let them move a no-confidence motion. Why are they not doing it?"
The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered the state assembly Speaker N. P. Prajapati to hold a floor test on Friday which has left the fate of the Kamal Nath government hanging by the thread after the resignation of 22 Congress MLAs.
Observing that state of uncertainty in Madhya Pradesh must be ‘effectively resolved’, the court ordered Speaker NP Prajapati to reconvene a special session with the ‘single agenda’ before the assembly.
