Minor sisters kill father with axe in Chhattisgarh

Disappointed with their father’s drunken misconduct over the years, two minor sisters hacked him to death after he tried to murder his wife over a minor affair in Chhattisgarh.

The shocking incident was reported by the Times of India in which the two sisters, not able to withstand the extended intimidation, threats and abuse by the father, hacked him to death in order to defend their sick mother.

The episode happened in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district on Tuesday.

The two minors, aged 12 and 17, had been struggling with their ill mother and drunkard father over the last several months. The father, aged 45, Sahdev Netam, would many times come home inebriated and thrashed his wife and also assault the kids.

On Tuesday, the father again came home in a drunken state and asked the girls what was being made for dinner. After being told about the menu, he got angry over the items they had cooked.

Soon, he picked up another fight with his wife, saying she had withdrawn Rs 5,000 from the bank account for household work and must return it immediately. When she refused, the enraged Netam started looking for an axe to attack the woman.

Exasperated because of the daily chaos at home, the younger sister found the axe and attacked her father. As he fell on the ground, the elder girl repeatedly hacked her father with the axe till he died.

With little or no earnings during the lockdown, the elder sibling had to give up her studies while the younger girl carried on with the online classes. The girls were also made to work in the fields with their father to make ends meet.

Even then, the few times when their father caught them going to the market, he started beating them up in front of everyone while also taking away the little amount they had.

Chhattisgarh Police has now taken both the girls into their custody after their mother told them to go with the police without any objection. Murder charges have been slapped on them and they will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board for further course of action.
