Minor girl gang raped by four youths, family alleges cops asked to drop name of accused
In a gruesome incident reported from the national capital, the family of a 14-year-old girl , who was gangraped by four youths, has alleged that the police turned their back several times on them and also asked them to drop the name of one of the accused.
As maintained by a report in the Times of India, a class 9 student in Ghaziabad, was called by one of the accused to a temple near her residence on 27th July. They then went to a park where he introduced her to his three friends.
The accused individuals, all in their twinties, talked the girl into going for a drive with them in their vehicle. However, they took her to a flat in Delhi’s Kondli area where they gang-raped the minor girl.
In line with the complaint registered by the girl’s father, the accused dropped her off on the main road following the incident and threatened her with grave repercussions if she told anyone about what had happened to her. The victim at last give an account of the incident to her parents who then lodged a police complaint.
However, the family of the victim claimed that they came across difficulties initially lodging a complaint with the police as one cop coaxed them to drop the name of one of the accused.
"It's unfortunate how the police behaved with us when we approached them. They tore our complaint twice and turned us away several times. Later, we approached some senior officials, who helped us file the FIR," the victim’s relative was quoted as saying by the TOI.
Questioned about the family’s claims, a police official told TOI, "We had called the family to the police station to record their statements, but they are yet to come. Initial findings do not suggest any lag in police behaviour. However, an investigation is underway and suitable action will be taken against anyone found guilty."
According to police, they have lodged an FIR against the four accused under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 363 (kidnapping), 376 (rape) of IPC and relevant provisions of the Pocso Act. The victim’s medical has been carried out and the reports are awaited.
The police are on the lookout for the fourth accused.
