Maharashtra: Couple violates corona lockdown norms on wedding day; booked

A newlywed couple landed in the trouble after they were booked on their wedding day. The incident took place at Mudre tehsil in Karjat in Raigad district on Sunday.

The couple and their parents have been booked by Karjat Police in Maharashtra for violating the coronavirus lockdown guidelines.

As per the reports, the couple has invited over 150 guests on their wedding day. With this huge gathering in wedding ceremony, they have violated the lockdown norms put in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, the couple’s parents assembled over 150 people when only 50 people are allowed due to the lockdown norms.

The police official also said that due to the ongoing lockdown norms, gathering of only 50 people allowed, but there were at least 150 attendees during the wedding reception.

The action has been taken against the couple following a social media post about the event.

An FIR has been registered against the groom, bride, and their parents under Section 188 (Negligent act likely to spread infection of dangerous disease) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other sections of disaster management act and epidemic diseases act 1897.

As per reports, five persons have been book, but they are yet to be arrested.

According to the revised guidelines of the ‘Mission Begin Again’, only 50 people are allowed to attend a wedding with prior permission from the revenue department, said Vikram Deshmukh, Karjat Tehsildar.

The information about the wedding was fist given by a Karjat based social activist Hrishikesh Joshi.

"My intention was not to hurt anyone. My intention was to highlight the illegal activities committed by the marriage hall owner Niles Chaundiye who works with Karjat Municipal council as a junior construction supervisor,” Joshi said.

He also added that since the lockdown was imposed, the marriage hall owner has illegally allowed four ceremonies at the Royal Garden Hall.
