Maharashtra: 21-year-old man murders aunt, injures mother at engagement party
In a shocking incident reported from Maharashtra’s Thane district, a 21-year-old was taken into custody by the Kalyan police for allegedly murdering his aunt and injuring his mother during an engagement party on Monday.
While the aunt of the accused died on the spot, his mother is admitted to a hospital.
An unknown assailant took a shot at Suvarna Ghode, 36, and Bharti Mhatre,40, during an engagement party on Sunday in Kalyan’s Saparde village, said police.
When the assailant shot at Sunarna Ghode, Bharti Mhatre tried to protect her but she too sustained a bullet injury. According to police, the accused took advantage of loud music being played at the engagement party to target the woman and later ran away from the spot.
After the episode took place, police called Mhatre's son Pawan for questioning. Pawan tried to make the crime look like it was a robbery gone wrong and said that he was also attacked by assailants and had fell unconscious, police said.
However, Police came upon several discrepancies in his statement and interrogated him further.
Eventually, Pawan broke down and admitted that he was behind the attack on Ghode and his mother. He told police that he was in an illicit relationship with his aunt Suvarna Ghode, which he claimed the woman had ended.
The accused Pawan has been taken into custody, police said.
