Infosys employee asks people to ‘go out and sneeze’ on social media; gets arrested
Amid coronavirus pandemic outbreak, an insensitive post shared by Infosys employee on Facebook. He made a shocking appeal on his social media account and asked people to ‘go out and sneeze’ in a bid to spread the deadly virus which has killed at least 19 people and affected over 800 people in the country.
The engineer has been arrested by the City Crime Branch (CCB) and identified as Mujeeb Mohammed of Infosys. He is the software engineer in the Bengaluru branch of Infosys.
He took to Twitter on Thursday and appealed people to spread the coronavirus in the country.
“Let's join hands, go out and sneeze with open in public. Spread the virus,” he wrote in his twitter post that has gone viral since then.
The company has also sacked the 25-year-old employee for his insensitive and inappropriate post on social media.
The company also said that the post of Mujeeb is against the code of conduct and also and its commitment to responsible social sharing while adding that it had a “zero-tolerance policy towards such acts and has accordingly, terminated the services of the employee”.
Infosys also tweeted, “Infosys has completed its investigation on the social media post by one of its employees, and we believe that this is not a case of mistaken identity.”
The Bengaluru-based company also tweeted on Thursday that they would take necessary action against the employee based on the investigation.
“Our preliminary enquiry and discussions with our employees suggest that this could be a case of mistaken identity... However, given the seriousness with which we take such matters, we are investigating this further and will also assist with any independent investigation. The company would take appropriate action based on its investigation,” reads the notice shared by Infosys.
Meanwhile in India, the novel coronavirus has killed over 800 people in India and claimed the lives of 19 so far.
The Indian government has announced a 21-day nationwide lockdown from 25 March in a bid to stop the further spread of the virus and also asked people to stay indoors and stay safe.
