India-China disengagement from standoff areas along the LAC in Pangong Lake; key highlights

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today stated that India has come to a consensus with China on the disengagement of troops from the standoff area along the Line of Actual Control in Pangong Tso.

All you need to know about the agreement:

1) Rajnath Singh stated that both sides will pull back forward deployment in a phased, verified manner.

2) Defence Minister assured Parliament that India has not lost anything even as some outstanding issues vis-a-vis deployment and patrolling remained.

3) India-China concurred to absolute disengagement under bilateral pacts, protocols.

4) Both sides have agreed to call the next meeting of military commanders within 48 hours of complete disengagement in the area.

5) China will keep its troop presence in Pangong lake’s North Bank area to the east of Finger 8.

6) India’s troops will be based at their permanent base at Dhan Singh Thapa Post near Finger 3.

7) China knows India’s resolve to protect its sovereignty, said Rajnath Singh.

8) Defence Minister added that Indian troops handled the situation in eastern Ladakh effectively and maintained their edge.

9) Rajnath Singh said adequate and effective counter deployments have been made for India’s security.

10) Rajnath Singh said that China is expected to work with India to settle the remaining issues.

11) Defence Minister asserted that India will not let even an inch of its territory to be taken by anyone.
