Imran Khan takes u-turn on Kartarpur corridor: Passport must for Indian sikh pilgrims
Pakistan Army spokesperson Major General Asif Ghafoor stated that Indian Sikh pilgrim would stand in need of a passport to use Kartarpur Corridor, which will bring up the curtain on Saturday.
This development comes after Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on 1st November had declared that his goverment set aside two main requisites for Sikh pilgrims travelling to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur from India.
Imran Khan stated that Indian Sikh pilgrims will no longer be requiring passport and only a valid ID will be needed for entering Pakistan.
Second, the visiting pilgrims will no longer need to register ten days prior, Imran Khan tweeted.
He also stated that no fee will be charged from visiting pilgrims on the opening of Kartarpur Corridor on 9th November and on 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev’s on 12th November.
"For Sikhs coming for pilgrimage to Kartarpur from India, I have waived off 2 requirements: i) they won't need a passport - just a valid ID; ii) they no longer have to register 10 days in advance. Also, no fee will be charged on day of inauguration & on Guruji's 550th birthday," Imran Khan wrote.
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate the Kartarpur Corridor before the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak on 12th November.
The two neighbours earlier signed the agreement on the Kartarpur Corridor that will permit Indian pilgrims to undertake visa free visit to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, notwithstanding, a chill in bilateral ties over Kashmir.
The deal will permit 5,000 Indian pilgrims daily to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib.
The corridor will link the Dera Baba Nayak shrine in India’s Punjabwith Darbar Sahib at Kartarpur, just 4 km away from the International border.
