Gyanvapi case: Owaisi reacts to verdict, says 'going on same path as of Babri Masjid'

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi on September 12 reacted to the Varanasi court order in the Gyanvapi mosque case. He said the case is going on the same path as that of the Babri Masjid case. 

Drawing close similarities between Gyanvapi and Babri Masjid case he asserted that order given would lead to a ‘destabilising effect’.

"A destabilising effect will start after this. We're going on the same path as that of the Babri Masjid issue. When judgement on Babri Masjid was given, I warned everyone that this will create problems in the country as this judgement was given on the basis of faith," Owaisi said as quoted by ANI.

"There should be an appeal in High Court against this order. I hope Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee will appeal against this order. I believe that after this order, the purpose of the Places of Worship Act 1991 will fail," he added.

Today, the Varanasi District Court rejected the Muslim side’s petition challenging the Hindu worshippers' request for permission for daily worship of Hindu deities inside the Gyanvapi Mosque compound next to the Kashi Viswanath Temple. The next hearing of the case is on September 22.

A single bench of District Judge AK Vishvesh delivered the verdict and held the case as maintainable.

“The case of women plaintiffs seeking worshipping rights at Shringar Gauri and other deities in Gyanvapi mosque compound is maintainable,” ordered District Judge Ajay Krishna Vishvesh.

On the other hand, the Anjuman Intezamia Committee that represents the Muslim side said that it will move to the High Court against today’s ruling.
