Gurugram: Man commits suicide after selling his mobile phone to feed family amid lockdown

A shocking case was reported from Gurugram’s slum cluster in Saraswati Kunj area where a poor man hung himself to death on Thursday. As per reports, before committing suicide, the man sold his mobile phone for Rs 2,500 to purchase flour, rice, sugar and a table fan so that her four children could sleep comfortably in the scorching heat of summer.

As per police, the now-deceased man identified as Mukesh, sold his cellphone as he didn’t have money to buy essential items. Before ending his life he handed over the remaining money he got by selling his phone to his wife and then went inside his tin hut and committed suicide. Later, when she entered the room she found Mukesh handing from the roof.

During the investigation, Mukesh’s father-in-law told the police that Mukesh used to work as a painter and from past two months he was in deep stress and there was no job. So, he began working as a daily wager and took up any job that he found, however soon those jobs also dried up due to the Coronavirus lockdown. He also added that his son-in-law was under pressure to repay loans.

However, as per TimesNow, Police Commissioner Mohammad Akil told TOI that the investigating officials had recorded Umesh’s statement claiming that Mukesh was mentally unstable. Even, his family members told the police that he used to beg and did not have any regular source of income and also stated that the deceased man was mentally unstable.
