Gujarat: Woman dragged by hair, thrashed to death by neighbours

In a horrifying incident reported from Gujarat’s Rajkot, two men allegedly beat-up a woman, aged 30, to death after dragging her out of her house in Shapar Veraval area on Sunday.

The gruesome episode took place after the victim, identified as Shabnam Chauhan, admonished the two accused, who happen to be her neighbours, for defecating into her house.

The woman, who was a mother of three children, was a resident of Bihar. She used to live in a one-room apartment with her husband, identified as Santosh, a labourer by profession, and their three kids, all below the age of five. The two accused –Sonu and Shambhu, hail from Uttar Pradesh.

Sonu allegedly harassed Shabnam on Sunday when her husband was not at home. He was allegedly looking into her house through a window. She admonished him for his actions, after which he and his brother Shambhu forced into her house. The two caught hold of her hair and dragged her out of her house. Subsequently, the two accused assaulted her using an iron pipe and ran away, according to a report published by The Times of India.

Santosh came to know about the incident through Shabham’s kin. He returned and discovered Shabnam lying in a pool of blood. She was rushed to a hospital for treatment. The doctors there referred her to the Rajkot civil hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. Sonu has been taken into police custody for interrogation. His brother is still at large and the police are hopeful that he’ll be arrested soon.

This unfortunate incident comes months after a woman, aged 25, ended her own life by consuming poison at Kishanpur area which fall under the jurisdiction of Bhopa police station in Muzaffarnagar. The woman, reportedly, took the extreme step after her husband gave her triple talaq and uploaded her obscene video on social media.

Earlier, the now-deceased woman had lodged a police complaint against her husband stating that her husband divorced her through triple talaq and forcibly took away their son from her.

While a probe into the matter was going on, her husband allegedly uploaded an smutty video clip on social media, following which she poisoned herself to death.
