Family sells minor girl to 35-year-old man for Rs 1.55 lakh
A 15-year-old girl was allegedly sold by her family to a 35-year-old man in the Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh.
Reportedly, the family sold the girl a week after the girl allegedly eloped with her brother-in-law to Gujarat.
The shocking incident took place in a village under the Dharmapuri police station in the Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh.
According to a member of the district childline, Pankaj Jain, a panchayat was convened in the village after the 15-year-old girl had allegedly eloped with her sister’s husband, a timesnownews.com report said.
The panchayat was called after the elder sister of the minor had alleged that her sister was having an affair with her husband, a local said.
Police were alerted about the incident that the family member of the minor girl, on direction from the panchayat, had decided to sell the girl to a 35-year-old man from Mannawar tehsil the district.
During the investigation, it was found that the parents of the 15-year-old girl had finalized a deal with the 35-year-old man for Rs 1.55 lakh, of which Rs 5,000 has already been paid to the head of the caste panchayat. While another Rs 5,000 has been kept aside for a community feast, police said.
Local police have confirmed the incident and said a case would be registered after investigating the matter.
Police rescued the minor girl and she has been counseled by authorities at the district childline.
According to a member of the district childline, the minor girl wants to study but she also wants to live with her brother-in-law.
