On 14th April we will be celebrating the birth anniversary of the chief architect of the Indian Constitution Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar. His importance in Indian polity cannot be devasted as he campaigned against untouchables and also supported the rights of women and labourers. Because of this reason he is reversed as icons of Dalit.

Now as Ambedkar Jayanti is around the corner we have brought to you a few lesser-known facts about Dr B R Ambedkar.

1. Dr Ambedkar was a master in 64 subjects and had knowledge of 9 languages. Apart from this, he studied all the religions of the world in a comparative way for almost 21 years.

2. He was the first Indian to pursue a doctorate in Economics abroad.

3. He played a key role in the establishment of Reserve Bank of India in 1935. RBI was conceptualized according to the guidelines presented by Dr Ambedkar to the Hilton Young Commission.

4. Dr Ambedkar was instrumental in bringing about several labour reforms. He changed the working hours from 12 hrs to 8 hrs in the 7th session of the Indian Labour Conference in November 1942. Not just this he also introduced leave benefit, medical leave, employee insurance, equal pay for equal work, among others.

5. His autobiography Waiting for a Visa is used as a textbook in the Columbia University.

6. He was the one to proposes the idea of Ashok Chakra on the Indian tricolour.

7. He has a higher number of statues in the world, the first statute was built in 1950 in Kolhapur city.

8. He is the only Indian whose statue is attached with Karl Marx in the London Museum.

9. All the statues and paintings of Buddha around the world have Buddha with closed-eyed, but Dr B R Ambedkar made the first painting of Buddha in which Buddha's eyes were opened.

10. Mahant Veer Chandramani, a great Buddhist monk who initiated Dr Ambedkar to Buddhism, called him "the modern Buddha of this age”.
