Coronavirus in India: Cases of infection cross 500 mark, Maharashtra on top with 97 cases, claims IMRC data

Cases of the Covid-19 infection exceeded the 500 mark on Tuesday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) stated, further adding that thus far ten people have seen demise in the country due to the pathogen.

The state of Maharashtra tops the list with 97 cases and two deaths, which like many other regions in the country, is under out and out lockdown to curb the fast spreading, coronavirus. Kerala is placed at second spot with 95 cases.

The ICMR statistics displayed 506 cases as of Tuesday, 35 have recuperated and 10 died. Delhi, Gujarat, Bihar, West Bengal, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh have recorded one death each. The national capital has 30 cases out of which five have recovered.

As of Monday, there were 471 cases and nine fatalities. The updated figure means 35 new cases and 1 casualties. The declaration came on the day when over 1.06 billion people living in more than 600 districts are under lockbown.

India has also suspended domestic flights as well as passenger service of the railway till 31st March, augmenting restrictions in the midst of coronavirus pandemic. International flight operation have been stopped on 22nd March, and the restriction will continue to exist for seven days.

There are curtailment on traffic movement, and people not adhering to orders are being booked. However, people carrying out essential services are exempted.
