Chandipura Virus Wreaks Havoc in Gujarat, Death Toll Reaches 53

Ahmedabad: The Chandipura virus has continued to wreak havoc in Gujarat, with the death toll crossing 50. According to reports, 53 children have lost their lives to the virus in the state till Sunday.

Additionally, two patients from Rajasthan and one from Madhya Pradesh have also succumbed to the virus in Gujarat.

A total of 137 suspected cases have been reported in the state, with 47 testing positive. Seven patients are still undergoing treatment, while 40 have been discharged.

The Panchmahal district has been the worst affected, with six deaths reported, followed by Ahmedabad with five deaths.

The Gujarat government has taken measures to contain the spread of the virus. Over 43,000 houses in affected areas have been surveyed, and 1.21 lakh houses have been sprayed with insecticides.

Moreover, 5.61 lakh houses have been covered under the melathion powder spraying program. The government has also taken measures to prevent the spread of the virus in schools and anganwadis, with over 23,000 schools and 28,000 anganwadis being covered under the melathion powder spraying program.

In a bid to prevent the spread of the virus, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's Animal Control Department has started spraying insecticides in areas where animals are kept. This move is aimed at preventing the spread of the virus through animals.
