Chandigarh: Woman allegedly kills herself after being harassed for dowry
In yet another shocking incident reported from Chandigarh, a woman allegedly ended her life by hanging herself, reportedly following her husband and mother-in-law harassed her for dowry.
According to reports, the woman tied knot with Budh Ram alias Deepak (25), a resident of Chandigarh’s Dhanas area, in April 2016. Shortly after, her husband and mother-in-law Naina Devi, who is 46-years of age demanded more dowry and started harassing the victim. In 2019, she lodged a dowry harassment complaint, but the case ended in compromise. However, her husband and his mother did not put an end to harassing her for dowry.
As per a report by Hindustan Times, the father of the victim told the cops that he got a call from his daughter at around 11 pm on 10th June. The victim asked her father to take her back to his house as she feared that her husband would kill her. At that time, her father was in Uttar Pradesh. Therefore, he reassured her on the call.
The next day, the Deepak made a call to the victim’s father and asked him to take her back to his house. After sometime, Deepak informed the victim’s father that she committed suicide.
Earlier, the victim’s family staged a protest in front of Sarangpur police station, demanding that a case be registered against Deepak and his mother Naina Devi.
On the basis of a complaint registered by the victim’s family, the police have booked the accused under IPC Section 304B (dowry death). Deepak has been taken into police custody while his mother is yet to be apprehended.
In another horrifying incident, a 25-year-old man allegedly killed his wife after she raised objection to his illicit affair with one of his sisters-in-law. Later, the accused tried to mislead the police by saying a thief entered his house and fled after murdering his wife.
When the cops asked the man about his injuries, he was not able to give any satisfactory reply. Following this, he was subjected to sustained interrogation. As a result, he confessed to having killed his wife.
