Assam: Education dept employees prohibited from criticising govt
Days after the after elementary education department's notice warning its employees not to participate in political activities in social media forums, the Director of Higher Education department has issued an order for its employees warning them against making statements criticizing the govt.
The higher education department has asked the principals of government and provincialized colleges in Assam to ensure strict compliance of Assam Civil Service (conduct) Rules, 1965.
As per the office odder, "It is brought to the notice of all concerned that under Rule 7 of the Assam Civil Service (conduct) Rules, 1965, a Government servant shall not make any statement of fact or opinion criticizing the government."
"If the government servant is found criticizing the government, he or she will be held responsible for violation of Rule 3 and Rule 7 of Assam Civil Service (conduct) Rules, 1965 which will attract the appropriate provisions of the Assam Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1964," the order further read.
The office order further said, "All Principals of government or provincialized colleges in the state of Assam are therefore requested to ensure strict compliance of the rules."
On December 24, the Director of Elementary Education of Assam had issued an order prohibiting its employees from updating any posts against the government.
As per the notification, disciplinary actions against those employees including contractual employment, have been indulging and practicing political activities in different social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp Instagram, and other social media forums by violating the provision of the Assam Service (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1964.
