Assam: American national hurls abuses at staff nurse, doctor on duty, damages hospital property

In a shocking incident reported in Assam where a US aid worker allegedly attacked a doctor, spat on the staff nurse, and also damaged the property of the hospital.

According to the reports in timesnownews.com, the man was taken to the hospital after he complained of chest pain and breathlessness on his return from Asam, officials said on Monday.

The man identified as Theodore Moallem, who is associated with Shillong-based NGO. He got disturbed when he administered some injections in the Civil Hospital.

Reportedly, Moallem was suffering from chest pain and breathlessness since he returned from Guwahati on June 6. He went to the hospital on Saturday night.

According to a report from the hospital authorities to the Director of Health Services, Dr. Aman War said, “the patient has advised injections but he became violent and started breaking the hospital’s doors and chairs and attacked the nursing staff and doctor on duty.”

In the attack, one of the doctors named Dr. Isaac Syiem, a senior general surgeon of the government hospital got injured and one of his fingers got fractured due to which he will not be able to perform operations now, the report claimed.

The US national man also hurled abuses at doctors and also coughing and spitting on the hospital employees on duty.

However, the Health Minister Al Hek said that the health department is yet to decide on the action that should be taken against US national who shifted to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institue of Health & Medica Sciences (NEIGRIHMS).

On the other hand, Moallem posted a Facebook post and wrote, “They didn't technically confirm the diagnosis, they just started berating and giggling at me as for hours I begged for aspirin. They injected me at least twice, possibly thrice. Never did they confirm the syringe contents nor did they respond to any of my other questions (except to repeat terms like ''hospital'' and ''injection'')."

"All I got were these sore arms, sore legs, and sore neck," he said.
