After PM Modi extends nationwide lockdown, Indian Railways cancels all passenger trains till May 3

In the wake of coronavirus outbreak in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced to extend the lockdown till May 3. Following the PM Modi announcement on lockdown, Indian Railways has also decided to halt its passengers' train services till May 3.

"In continuation of the measures taken in the wake of COVID-19 Lockdown, it has been decided that all passenger train services on Indian Railways including Premium trains, Mail/Express trains, Passenger trains, Suburban Trains, Kolkata Metro Rail, Konkan Railway, etc shall continue to remain to cancel till the midnight of May 3, 2020," said an official.

The Railways added that no advance reservation will be allowed “till further notice.

To ensure the supply of essential services to various parts of the country, Railways will not stop the movement of goods and parcel trains, an Indian Railways official said.

No counters for booking will be opened for a reserved and unreserved train at railway stations and also the outside railway station premises will also remain closed up to midnight on May 3.

The Indian Railways also assured its passengers that a full refund will be given automatically to its online customers for trains cancelled up to May 3. While customers who booked their tickets at the counters can take their refund till July 31.

Customers who are cancelling their advance bookings for trains not yet cancelled, will also get the refund.
