'You Disappear' is Denmark's foreign-language Oscar entry for 2018

Peter Schønau Fog's drama 'You Disappear' has been chosen to represent Denmark for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, it was also screened in the Special Presentations section at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival.

Several of Denmark's finest actors, including Trine Dyrholm and Nikolaj Lie Kaas star in this incisive.

Based on the bestselling novel by Danish writer Christian Jungersen, it follows Frederik (Nikolaj Lie Kaas), a headmaster put on trial for embezzling millions from his school. During a vacation he begins acting erratically and when he's abruptly hospitalized, the family is confronted with life-changing news: Frederik's odd behaviour may have been caused by a brain tumour. After he returns home, Frederik's employer confronts him with a string of questionable investments that suggest his illness may have been affecting his behaviour for much longer than anyone realized.

Denmark has altogether been nominated for 12 times for the most prestigious award in the foreign-language category and has won on three occasions, for Gabriel Axel's 'Babette's Feast' in 1987, Bille August's Pelle 'the Conqueror' in 1988 and 'In a Better World' by Susanne Bier in 2010.

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences will announce the nominees for best foreign-language film on 23 January.

The Oscars ceremony will take place on March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.
