Weather June 25: Heavy Rainfall in Mumbai, Goa, Karnataka; Dust storm in Delhi and North India might get rain this weekend

Relief for the people struggling with extremely hot weather in North India as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that monsoon will make its first move this weekend.

The monsoon has already marched into some parts of central India this weekend. The Met officials expect the advance to continue, with the rain-bearing system now looking likely to cover parts of north India, including Delhi, by June 29 to July 1.

The active offshore trough is extending from Konkan to Kerala coast due to which moderate to heavy showers, with very heavy spells are expected over parts of Konkan & Goa including Mumbai and Coastal Karnataka. Also, moderate rain will continue over Kerala.

In a few days, the parts of Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, and parts of Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh will get monsoon showers.

It was observed that the air-quality across the National Capital Region (NCR) was moderate on Monday, according to System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).

People living in the national capital region may get relief from hot weather between June 29 to July 1, with pre-monsoon activities expected to begin in the coming week.

Multiple reports show that the pre-monsoon showers are expected in north India from Tuesday or Wednesday. The monsoon entered southern Madhya Pradesh on Sunday while pushing further into Maharashtra and Gujarat, a state it entered the previous day.

"We expect good rainfall in the next few days that will hopefully wipe out much of the deficit by the end of this month," said M Mohapatra, additional director-general, IMD.

The Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir would bring light rains over Jammu and Kashmir, parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, hot weather will prevail in plains of North India. However, dust storm and thundershowers may affect parts of northwest plains including Delhi.
