National Cinema Day: Why movie tickets are Rs 75 across India on September 16
Good news for moviegoers! Now they can watch movie for just Rs 75 at any theatre across India but only on September 16. The Multiplex Association of India (MAI) and cinemas across the country have decided to celebrate ‘National Cinema Day’ in India on September 16 and offer tickets for just Rs 75.
Currently, the average cost of a movie ticket in the NCR is between Rs 200 and 300.
The decision was made after theatres in the United States announced that they will offer movie tickets for only 3 dollars (approx Rs 239) on their National Cinema Day on September 3. However, the normal day price is about $9.17 or Rs 731.
“National Cinema Day will bring together audiences of all ages to enjoy a day at the movies. It also celebrates the successful reopening of cinemas and is a ‘thank you’ to the moviegoers who made this happen. It is an invitation to those moviegoers who haven’t made it back to a cinema near them, yet,” reads the MAI statement.
As per the Association, India has a thriving domestic film industry and it has seen one of the sharpest recoveries in the film exhibition business, globally.
Moviegoers will be able to watch their favourite movies at just Rs 75 at around 4,000 screens across the country.
