NEP 2020: Students to get chance to appear for Board Class 10, 12 exams twice a year
The new National Education Policy passed by the cabinet on Wednesday and brought several changes in the Indian education system.
Under the new policy, students will get a chance to appear for the board examination twice a year.
HRD Minister and Education Minister Ramesh Nishank Pokhriyal said in an interview with IANS that board exams for classes 10 and 12 will be allowed to appear for them twice a year.
However, this was suggested last year in the draft education policy as well.
With this policy, the government is the focus to encourage competencies skills among students instead of memorized facts. This is decided so that students don’t depend on rote learning or coaching centres.
Pokhriyal told IANS, “All students will be allowed to take the board examination twice during any school year to eliminate the higher risk aspect of final examinations. The main examination and an improvement will be allowed if necessary.”
While further changes in the policy to be introduced in the future like modular or semester-wise board exams, separate exams for objective and subjective-type questions, and exams at different levels of difficulty.
Free education till 18:
With the introduction of the NEP 2020, students will get free education till the age of 18, a 5+3+3+4 structure for school education instead of 10+2. There will be a single regulator for higher education institutions except for medical and law colleges.
Meanwhile, the schools, colleges, and all coaching institutes will remain close till August 31, due to the coronavirus pandemic, HRD minister said.
