Mass dropouts of reserved category students from IITs; IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur witness maximum fall
The Ministry of Human Resouce and Development has revealed a shocking data to the Rajya Sabha about the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) that over 2,400 students have dropped out from IITs. Out of this mass dropouts, candidates from reserved category withdraw their admission from IITs.
As per the reports of HRD, 371 students were from the Scheduled Caste (SC), 199 from Scheduled Tribes (ST) and 601 from the Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
The highest number of students who dropped out from IITs were from IIT Delhi and IIT Kharagpur.
The IIT Delhi has reported a record of 782 students while IIT Kharagpur recorded 622 students who dropped out from the college. While from other IITs like Kanpur, Madras, and Bombay, the dropouts record was far less.
From IIT Bombay, 263 students dropped out, 128 dropped out from IIT Madras whole 190 dropped out from IIT Kharagpur.
Getting admissions to IITs, just not only a challenge but a huge achievement for the aspirants and those who don’t get this opportunity either prepared hard for next chance while many falls in depression.
But, the report that HRD tabled in Rajya Sabha was quite shocking.
A Rajya MP from Andhra Pradesh V. Vijaysai Reddy gave the reason behind the mass dropouts was due to the shifting to other college/institutions, medical reasons, placement during PG courses, personal reasons or candidates pursuing higher education to abroad.
The MHRD also said that the institutes were taking correctional measures to “de-stress students”.
While revealing data about Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), the maximum number of students were also from reserved category who backout from the colleges. Out of 99 students, 14 were from SC, 21 from ST and 27 from OBC category.
