After the 10 per cent quota bill passed for the general category who are economically backward. With this reservation bill, millions of people will enjoy the benefits in the government jobs including prestigious competitive examinations like civil services.

As the new quota comes to effect, government job aspirants from general category who will enjoy the relaxations like in terms of age limit and a number of attempts to apply for the civil services.

The other backward class candidates who are having an upper age limit of 35 years and nine attempts to crack the civil service examination. On the other hand, the general category candidate has an age limit of 32 years only and are allowed only six attempts.

While for SC/ST aspirants, the upper age limit for the IAS aspirants is 37 years and there is no attempt limit for them.

“The government will bring in another bill that will deal with all these aspects,” said a senior BJP leader in the Rajya Sabha who is aware of the development.

As per the reports of Financial Express, the government is set to follow the rules that are applicable to other backward category candidates. The proposal has received the green signal from the union cabinet that has cleared the amendment bill on 7th January 2019 that will provide the reservation to the general category candidates whose household income of up to Rs 8 lakh for determining them as economically backward. With these criteria, candidates will get the benefits of the reservation bill in central jobs and others.

The government is likely to follow the same set of parameters for economically weaker sections (general category candidates) as are being followed for other socially and educationally backward classes (OBC candidates not falling in creamy layer category), otherwise, there could be a legal issue.

However, Article 14, 15 and 16 of Indian Constitution prohibited the discrimination on the basis of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth and also ensure equality before law and equality in matters of public employment.
