AMU 65th Convocation: After 32 years, Aligarh Muslim University to welcome Indian President Ram Nath Kovind

Aligarh Muslim University is going to organise the 65th annual convocation slated on 7th March 2018. This time AMU convocation will invite the President of India Ram Nath Kovind.

According to the varsity official, President has accepted the invitation given by the AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor. However, it is after 32 years that an Indian President will be a part of convocation.

After this information, the controversy also starts erupting. AMU student union said that President is most welcome to the event, but they are not ready to accept any person with Sanghi mindset.
According to the ANI reports, AMU Student Union Secretary says, 'We are not opposing the President, but we oppose the 'Sanghi' mindset. In 2010, the President had said Muslims and Christians are alien to a country that bothers us till date but we welcome him'.

However, no Indian President has attended the AMU convocation since 32 years. In 1986, former Indian President Giani Zail Singh had attended the ceremony. Before him, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmad was the part of the event in 1976 then, Dr S Radha Krishnan invited as a chief-guest in 1966. While Dr Rajendra Prasad attended the Aligarh Muslim University convocation in 1951, say reports.

AMU counted as one of the top-ranked universities in the world.
