Delhi University forcing Northeast students to vacate hostel amid lockdown, claim women students
Delhi University’s Northeast women students have filed a fresh complaint on Monday against the varsity and alleged that they have been forced to vacate the hostel amid lockdown.
Northeaster women have sent their complaint to the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) and alleged that the college administration is pressurizing them to vacate the hostel and also said that they are facing racial discrimination in the varsity.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Commission for Women(DCW) has sent a notice to Delhi University.
Earlier, the Union Minister had assured assistance to the women but a fresh complaint was filed on Monday. The students have demanded the intervention of women’s panel into the matter.
In the complaint female students have alleged that they have been told to vacate the hostel and also facing several problems related to food at the mess. Also, students have alleged in the complaint about the passing of racial comments on them.
Taking cognizance into the matter, DCW has sent a notice to the Registrar of Delhi University. The commission has also asked the university to give an action report and also on facilities provided to the students, India Today reported.
Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal said, “Northeast students studying in Delhi University have given a complaint that they are being pressurized to vacate the hostel. Due to the lockdown, they have no choice but to stay in the hostel.”
She also said that the students have also complained about the racial discrimination in the varsity. Hence, she assured me that the immediate action will be taken in the matter.
Maliwal also said that no such discrimination will be tolerated at all.
