The preparations for the celebration of Lord Krishna birthday or Janmashtmi has been completed amid the confusion over the date of Janamashtmi. Many people are thinking that Krishna Janamashtmi is on August 23rd and many are thinking to celebrate on 24th August.

As per the Hindu belief, Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated on the eight-day of Krishna Paksha after Shraavana, which is also known as Krishna Ashtami or Gokul Ashtami.
This year, Ashtami (the eight-day of Hindu Calendar) lies on the two dates of the gregorian calendar, i.e. 23rd August and 24th August.
According to the Hindu Calendar, the Ashtami will begin from 8:09 am on Friday and will ends at 8:23 am on Saturday.
Hereby, people can celebrate the Janmashtami either on August 23rd or on August 24.
As we all know that Lord Krishna’s birthplace is Mathura, so, people in Mathura will celebrate the birthday of Krishna on August 24th, including the ISKCON temple of Vrindavan and Dwarkadeesh. Whereas, in Banke Bihari Temple, Janmashtami is on 23rd August i.e. today.
As per the belief, Lord Krishna was born in Rohini nakshatra which will be on August 24. Also, the Vaishnav community will celebrate the festival on August 24.
