Holika Dahan 2021: Know the shubh muhurat, puja vidhi for Chhoti Holi

Holi is one of the most auspicious festivals of Hindu which usually falls in March, every year. As per the Hindu calendar, Holi falls on the Full moon day in the month of Phalgun and also the arrival of the spring season. The festival also symbolizes the victory of good over evil.

When is Holi?

As per traditions, the first day of the festival begins with the celebrations of Chhoti Holi or Holika Dahan, and the second day is called Holi, Holi dhulandi, or Dhuleti.

This year, the festival of colors will be celebrated on March 29. While Chhoti Holi or Holika Dahan will be celebrated on March 28.

Holika Dahan 2021: Puja Time or Muhurat

As per Hindu scriptures, Holika Dahan puja should be done during Pradosh Kal (which starts after sunset) while Purnimasi Tithi is prevailing. As per belief, during Bhadra, all good work should not be done.

  • Holika Dahan 2021 Puja Time - 2 Hours 26 Mins
  • Bhadra Punchha - 10:13 am to 11:16 am
  • Bhadra Mukha - 11:16 am to 1:00 pm
  • Full Moon - March 28th from 3.27 am to March 29th at 12.17 midnight

Holika Dahan Story

As per Hindu beliefs, there was a demon king Hiranyakashyap who hates Lord Vishnu and wanted everyone to worship him. But his son, Prahlad refused to follow him and he was a devotee of Lord Vishu.

Due to this, the demon king wanted to end the life of his son and took the help of his sister Holika, to take Prahlad in her arms and sit on the blazing fire. Holika was granted a boon that had given her power to sit in the fire but she got burnt to death while Prahlad survived. Since then, the day is celebrated as Holika Dahan.
