Diwali 2020: When is Dhanteras and Chhoti Diwali? Here’s the exact dates and timings to celebrate festivals
Diwali is just around the corner and many people are in dilemma about the date of celebrations of Dhantera and Chhoti Diwali. Some people are saying that Dhanteras is on November 12, while Chhoti Diwali will be celebrated on November 13. On the other hand, some people have said that Chhoti Diwali and Diwali will be celebrated on the same day i.e. November 14. Amid all this confusion, we are here to tell you the exact dates and timings of Hindu’s one of the most auspicious festivals.
As we all know that Diwali festivities begin with Dhanteras or Dhantrayodashi which falls on the thirteenth day of the Karthik month, Krishna Paksha. On this day, Lord Vishnu took the avatar of a Kurma (tortoise) to help the Devas and the Asuras in the Samudra Manthan (churning) of the Kshirasagara. While Chhoti Diwali is celebrated on the next day in a bid to celebrate the triumph of Lord Krishna’s consort, Satyabhama over Narakasura.

Dhanteras 2020 Date:
This year, Dhanteras will be celebrated on November 13.
Dhateras Puja Subh Muhurat and Tithi:
The Trayodashi Tithi will begin at 9:30 pm on November 12 and ends at 05:59 pm on November 13.
The puja will be performed in the evening after sunset. According to drikpanchang, Dhanteras puja was performed during the Pradosh Kaal Muhurat.
The Pradosh Kaal Muhurat will start at 05:28 pm and will end at 08:07 pm on November 13.
On the day of Dhanteras, devotees worship Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Kubera, and Lord Dhanvantri.
Chhoti Diwali Puja Muhurat and Date 2020
This year, Naraka Chaturdashi or Chhoti Diwali will be celebrated on November 14.
Abhyanga Snan Muhurat:
The shubh muhurat will start from 05:23 am and will end at 06:43 am.
On the day of Chhoti Diwali, people take a holy bath in the morning called Abhyanga Snan. This ritual symbolizes the cleaning of the mind and the body.
