Yuvraj Singh, recently announced his retirement from internaional cricket, notwithstanding that, Yuvraj has been playing in the Global T20 Canada and has been leading the Toronto Nationals in the second season of the tournament.
The left hander is finally proving his worth, after a slow start to the campaign. He has cumulated 145 runs at a strike rate of 150. and is the leading run scorer for is team. As a matter of fact, Yuvraj has scored 35, 45 and 51in his last three matches.
That being so, he has been leading his team from the front. In Toronto’s previous match , regardless of Yuvi’s 22 ball 51 runs, they conceded defeat to the Brampton Wolves as the fell short by 11 runs while chasing a huge score of 223. Nevertheless, there was a moment in that match which caught the eye of everyone.
For quite sometime now, Yuvraj has been under scanner vis-sa-vis his fitness. He has been criticised for his slow movement on the field. However, he flouted that and showed that he still has sharp reflexes. Brampton Wolves got off to a quick start with few sixes from Lendl Simmons and some boundaries from George Munsey which saw them put up 29 runs in 3.1 overs.
Jeremy Gordon was delivering his second over when Simmons hit the ball towards Yuvraj at mid-off. The ball flew stright to the Toronto captain but he made a mess of it on the first occasion. The ball popped out and hit his chest and again popped out before Yuvraj Singh dived and caught it.
The catch gave Toronto their first wicket in the game. However, they ended up conceding 222 in stipulated 20 overs, Yuvraj came to bat at numbet four and gave his best to help his team chase the total, but once he was dismissed after getting 51, Toronto couldn’t attain the target and eventually fell short by 11 runs. After this loss the Toronto Nationals stays fifth on the points table.
