Windies can lift World Cup trophy: Dwayne Bravo

Ahead of the upcoming 2019 World Cup, former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo on Friday gave thumbs up to the Caribbean side for the good chance to lift the prestigious trophy.

"With those, young talents like Shai Hope, Hetmyer, they have a lot of talent and they showed that in the short time that they have been playing. It is just a matter of nurturing those talents. They have a chance. Everybody has a chance going into the World Cup," International Cricket Council (ICC) quoted Bravo, as saying.

"It is a young team. It is a very young team, and the likes of Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels will be the senior players. Although the team hasn't been selected yet, I think they both will be there. Jason Holder, the captain (is also there)," he added.

West Indies team, which is currently placed at the ninth spot in the ICC men's One-Day International (ODI) team rankings, last won the World Cup in 1975 and 1979.

While picking another potential side, Bravo, who retired from international cricket earlier in October, feels that a team like 10th-ranked Afghanistan have a prospect to win the tournament.

"Even Afghanistan! I think their cricket has got to a different level. It's going to be an exciting World Cup as always and everybody has a chance to win it. But those young players will definitely set the stage afire," he added.

Bravo quit the game after playing 40 Tests, 164 ODIs and 66 Twenty20 Internationals. He holds a total of 451 wickets and has smashed 6023 runs in his cricketing career.

The next edition of the ICC Men's World Cup is slated to be played in mid-2019 in England and Wales.
