Phillips, along with his team-mate Martin Guptill, was outstanding against the rivals Otago and it was his spate of out of the ordinary shots that kept the crowd going.
The switch shot worked brilliantly for Phillips as the ball flew over the boundary for a six as Aucland put up a total of 310/5 in stipulated 50 overs.
In the course of action, Auckland secured a 97 run victory over Otago, all thanks to glorious display by Phillips and Guptill.
Taking the crease first, they put up a brilliant total despite losing early wickets and then finishing off Otago for just 213.
