Australia was on the driving seat on the third Test against New Zealand in Sydney by cumulating a score of 454 in the first innings. Marnus Labuschane hit his first double Test hundred as the New Zealand bowling attact were made to slog away on the second day of the Sydney Test.

However, it didn’t all go according to the Australian side with James Pattinson’s dismissal a testament to that. Neil Wagner dug one in short with Pattinson trying to take cover but the ball didn’t bounce as much as expected and Pattinson got into a bit of tangle. The ball hit the Australian’s shoulder then bounced off his glove and onto the back of his bat before hitting the stump.

In response to Australia’s total of 454, the Kiwis ended day 2 on 63 for no loss, trailing at stumps by 391 runs. Tom Latham and Tom Blundell were two openers for the Kiwis.

However the day belonged to Marnus Labuschagne. The latter attained his highest Test score of 215 as the Australians were bundled out just ahead of tea on the second day. The personal best score came off 363 deliveries, which included 19 fours and a six .

Labuschagne was Test crickete’s highest run scorer list year with 1,104 runs and is continuing from where he left off in 2019.
