Watch: From Sachin Tendulkar to Yuvraj Singh, a retrospective of India vs South Africa

The South African cricket team will be travelling to India for a three match T20I series commencing from 15th September and Test series in October. This will be the ninth time that the two heavy weights will be coming face to face.

Here are some major events that happened when these two heavy weights came face to face.

Rahul Dravid’s two wickets in an over:

Not many would be aware of Rahul Dravid’s ability to bowl and even take wickets. In fact during the first ODI between India and South Africa at Kochi on 9th March 2000, Rahul Dravid claimed two wickets in an over. One of them was Gary Kirsten while the other one was Lance Klusener, for a duck.

His spell of 2/43 in nine overs was crucial to stop the Proteas, who at one stage were 235/0 in 39 overs. South Africa were restricted to 301/3 in stupulated 50 overs. India chased down the target with 2 balls left, with Ajay Jadeja knocking a dazzling 92 runs of 109 deliveries.

Sourav Ganguly’s century:

Sourav Ganguly’s maiden hundred as India’s skipper was a stylish 105 in 139 balls, which included 10 fours and four sixes. As he helped India chase down a traget of 200 with 17 deliveries left.

The match culminated to India’s first win against South Africa in Jamshedpur’s Keenan stadium.
The men in blue were 155 for 2 after 30 overs, some disruption forced the match to stop for few minutes. There was no reduction in the overs, but instead the lunch break was cut short.

The winning runs came off Ganguly’s bat as he guided the ball to the backward point.

Yuvraj Singh rises to the occasion:

Coming in at a difficult position with India at 3/5, Yuvraj Singh scored 103 in 122 deliveries, which included 10 fours and 3 sixes. Although India lost the game by five wickets, it was a golden phase in Yuvraj’s career.

He scored three hundreds in that season and bagged three man of the series award in that calender year.

Sachin Tendulkar’s 200 breaks world record:

On 24th February 2010, Sachin Tendulkar became the first cricketer to score double century. He was exactly 200 not out against the Proteas in the record breaking game at Gwailor. It was his maiden double century in ODI cricket, breaking the previous highest score of 194 held by Pakistan Saeed Anwar and Zimbabwe’s Charles Coventry.
