Virat Kohli to be dropped as Royal Challengers Bangalore captain? Know why
Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore lost their sixth consecutive match in the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League. If not humiliating this is the worst start any team can expect in the world’s best league. RCB is a team with very good and competitive players and the fans expect them to perform well at least if they cannot win the trophy.
Yesterday, Kohli and company lost their sixth match to Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals. Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to bowl first and their bowling attack did a good job in restricting the host below 150. Shreyas Iyer and team chased down the target in 18.5 overs with the skipper scoring the most number of runs. Iyer scored 67 off 50 balls before he was dismissed by Navdeep Saini.
In a post match press-conference, RCB skipper Virat Kohli said there are no excuses left, we have asked the team to take responsibility. If the mind is cluttered, you wouldn’t be able to focus on chances that come your way.
Virat Kohli was the lone survivor fighting the battle for the team with his bat. Kohli was the highest run-scorer for his team like always as he scored 41 runs off 33 balls before he was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada. And this is not the first time that Kohli was the only player contributing with runs for his team. In past, Kohli with AB de Villiers have hit 60 per cent of RCB’s total run scored. Kohli is also the highest run scorer in the Indian Premier League with 5,151 runs to his name in just 169 matches.
And this is the reason Virat Kohli cannot be dropped as RCB captain. The owners will have to think twice before taking any action against Kohli as he have showed with his performance why he is the best. His captaincy might not be top notch but his performance with both bat and on the field is enough to prove his point.
