Virat Kohli outstrips Ricky Ponting's record as Test skipper
Indian skipper Virat Kohli on Saturday outstripped former Austarlia captain Ricky Ponting by knocking his 20th century as a Test captain.
The Indian skipper knocked his all-inclusive 27th century during the second Test against Bangladesh, while former South Africa skipper Graeme Smith tops the chart with 25 hundreds as captain.
This is Virat Kohli’s second century of the year, having knocked two half centuries in the eight innings that he has played in 2019.
Simultaniously, the Indian skipper also went on to be the fastest to reach 5000 Test runs as captain. Kohli has taken 86 innings to attain the record, thus outdoing former Australian captain Ricky Ponting who took 97 innings.
Virat Kohli accomplished the feat when he took his 32nd run on Day 1 of the historic second Test against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens. Which was also India’s introduction in day-night Test.
The men in blue sailed comfortably for the whole of Day 1 of the second Test. They first dismissed Bangladesh for a paltry score of 106 and then went past the score in under a single session.
Indian opening duo Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma were gotten rid of for 14 and 21 respectively. Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara carried India into the lead however with the third wicket partnership between the duo now worth more the 64 runs.
Figuring up the first day score card, the men in blue exceeded the 275 run mark, with Kohli and Jadeja batting at 123 and 9 respectively.
