The men in blue have made a phenomenal upturn in the four match Test series against England. Following their loss in the first Test by 227 runs, team India have managed to square the series with an impressive 317 run victory in the second Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. It was a spectacular performance by the home side as they overshadowed the visitors thoroughly.
Skipper Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin displayed a scintillating performance with the bat in the second innings while Rohit Sharma’s century in the first innings set the tone of the match. Spinner Axar Patel was outstanding on debut as he picked up a five wicket haul while Kuldeep Yadav also scalped two wickets.
It was an out and out performance by India as they squared the series 1-1. with this victory, Virat Kohli also continued to script records as a skipper in red ball cricket.
The victory at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium was Kohli’s 21st win in Tests at home soil. It is the joint most by an Indian skipper. He is tied with none other than Mahendra Singh Dhoni and has the opportunity to leapfrog him in the next two Test matches.
The win was made within reach by the all-round genius of Ravichandran Ashwin, who scored a hundred and scalped 8 wickets in the match, and a splended century from Rohit Sharma in the first innings. The win was team India's biggest (by runs) against England and the fifth-biggest overall.
