Virat Kohli loses calm, has heated exchange of words with Temba Bavuma [Watch]
Former India skipper Virat Kohli and South Africa’s Temba Bavuma exhibited their aggressive and competative character on the field when Virat Kohli's strong throw narrowly went past Bavuma, which the Proteas skipper did not seem to appreciate during the first ODI on Wednesday.
It was during the 36th over of South Africa's batting when Bavuma tried to strike a wayward Yuzvendra Chahal delivery in the covers only to find Kohli lurking for a run-out opportunity.
Virat Kohli, in his element, did not appreciate Bavuma showing displeasure and also seemed conspicuously upset by the batman’s reaction.
Here’s the video:
The South African captain batting on 78 at that time, didn't get distracted and knocked a superlative ton to guide South Africa to a total of 296 for the loss of four wickets in 50 overs. Other than Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen also displayed a spectacle during his masterclass of 129 unbeaten runs.
In response, the men in blue put up a brave fight and were in line to overhaul the target score with Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan dominating proceedings in the run-chase.
However, India lost their way in the latter stage of the game and could only amass 265 runs for the loss of eight wickets, losing the match by 31 runs at last. The victory secured the host a crucial 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
The two heavyweights will now lockhorns at the same venue, Boland Park, Paarl on January 21. which will be followed by third and the final match on January 23 in Cape Town.
