Virat Kohli's India and Kane Williamson's New Zealand met in semi-final of World Cup 11 years ago
Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson have led their respective sides to a World Cup semi-final before and it was in 2008. The Under-19 World Cup that was held in Malaysia saw Virat Kohli-led team India and Kane Williamson-led New Zealand meet in the semi-final of the tournament.
Virat Kohli’s team came out victorious as they beat Kane Williamson’s New Zealand by 3 wickets (DLS method) to reach the final of the tournament. Can the history repeat itself? Interesting Virat Kohli took two wickets in the match and one of them was of Kane Williamson. Virat Kohli also scored 43 runs in the game and won the player of the match award.
Ravindra Jadeja, Tim Southee and Trent Boult were also in the team representing their respective sides. The three players are in their 2019 Men’s World Cup squad as well. Tim Southee was the player of the series in 2008 but he has not performed up to the mark in the ongoing World Cup. Whereas Trent Boult is looking in great touch. Jadeja has played just one game and took a wicket and also contributed with his amazing fieldwork. Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson are world class batsmen now and a good show from them will mean a lot for their teams.
India and New Zealand will face each other in the semi-final of World Cup 2019 being held in England and Wales. Both Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson are leading their respective sides. It will be interesting to see which side will come out victorious and reach the final of the tournament.
