Virat Kohli is a good captain, open to ideas: Daniel Vettori
Former Royal Challengers Bangalore player and coach Daniel Vettori opens up on Virat Kohli’s captaincy in the Indian Premier League. Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, Vettori said that Kohli relied more on intuition and understanding of the game than numbers and statistics.
Former New Zealand spinner also said that Kohli was always open to new ideas which made him a good captain. “When I used to speak to him or any other coaches (used to) speak to him, there is always a conversation around what you think is best, where can this work,” Vettori added.
Vettori also said that, “It wouldn't always be a number-driven conversation. It would be around some intuition and understanding of the game. I think, ultimately, when you sold a compelling story to Virat, he was always on board, open to listen and that made him such a good captain.”
Royal Challengers Bangalore once again finished at the bottom of the points table and are out of the title race. RCB have never won an IPL trophy in last 12 years and the Bengaluru based franchise started their IPL 2019 campaign with six consecutive losses.
Royal Challengers Bangalore is one of the most complete team in the Indian Premier League with world-class players like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Moeen Ali and Yuzvendra Chahal. Despite looking good on the papers, RCB have always failed to execute their plans on the field and this year was no different.
