This Day in History: Shane Warne gave 150 runs and took only Ravi Shastri's wicket in his debut Test

Former Australian great and spinner Shane Warne made his debut in Test cricket on this day in history. It was January 2, 1992 in Sydney where Warne was smashed for 150 runs by the Indian batsmen. Shane’s only wicket in that match was of the current Indian coach Ravi Shastri, who scored 206 runs off 477 balls.

Shane Warne went on to become one of the best leg-spinner in the world and scalped 708 wickets in his Test career, the highest by any Australian bowler. Warne played a total of 145 Test matches and took 708 wickets at an average of 25.41. Warne also made 3,154 Test runs in his career with the highest score of 99.

Warne retired from International cricket on January 2, 2007 and in March 2008, Warne signed to play in the Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals in the first edition of the tournament, where he played the roles of both captain and coach. He led his team to victory against the Chennai Super Kings in a cliffhanger of a final match on June 1, 2008.
