Sri Lanka-South Africa World Cup match came to a standstill after an attack on players
World Cup match number 35 between Sri Lanka and South Africa came to a standstill after a swarm of bees interrupted the game. The match had to stop for few minutes and all the players including match officials lay down on the ground.
This is not the first time when a match was interrupted due to bees. Co-incidentally a similar incident happened in an ODI match between Sri Lanka and South Africa in February 2017. A Test match between India and Australia also witnessed a similar incident at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi. The first ever bee incident during a cricket match was reported in 1962.
South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to field first. Kagiso Rabada opened the bowling attack for the Proteas and dismissed Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne. Sri Lanka was bundled out for 203 runs in 49.3 overs.
Kusal Perera and Avishka Fernando were the highest run scorer for Sri Lanka as both of them scored 30 runs each. For South Africa, Chris Morris and Dwaine Pretorius took three wickets each while Kagiso Rabada took two to his name.
Andile Phehlukwayo and JP Duminy also took one wicket each while their star spinner Imran Tahir went wicket-less.
