Sunrisers Hyderabad was not looking good after their key players David Warner and Jonny Bairstow left the tournament midway to join their national team. Hyderabad reached the play-offs with grace of Mumbai Indians, who gave them another chance to fight for the coveted trophy. But SRH couldn’t grab the opportunity with both hands as they were defeated by Delhi Capitals.
Sunrisers were looking goood to win the match at one point but the 18th over bowled by Basil Thampi was a game changing moment. Thampi went for 22 runs from an over when Rishabh Pant lauched his onslaught on the bowler. Pant started the over with a four, then went for a six, then a four and a six again. 20 runs from four balls as he conceived for consecutive boundaries, for the remaining two balls he went for two singles.

That over snatched the game away from Sunrisers Hyderabad’s jaw. This was not the first time Basil Thampi went for so many runs. On 17 May 2018, he registered the most shameful record as he became the bowler to conceive most number of runs in an innings in IPL history. Thampi went for 70 runs from four overs in a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore in M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Delhi Capitals beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 2 wickets to reach the second qualifier. They will play against Chennai Super Kings in Vizag again to decide the second finalist of IPL 2019 who will play against Mumbai Indians on May 12.
