Sourav Ganguly to script rare record as BCCI President

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly is all set to take the position of BCCI president. This will be a huge step for him in the Indian cricket administration, as he is currently the president of Cricket Association of Bengal.

Ganguly is anticipated to be the head of BCCI unchallenged as he is the only candidate. Ganguly retired from international cricket in 2008, he featured in 113 Tests and 311 ODIs and was captain of the side from 2000-2005.

He is not new to the administration and will keep the post till July 2020, following which he will go into a mandatory 3 year cooling off period, according to the Lodha committee amendments. The ruling on Sourav Ganguly was taken at an unofficial meeting in Mumbai on Sunday, which sighted prominent names like Anurag Thakur, N Srinivasan, Niranjan Shah and Amit Shukla attending.

Meantime, Sourav Ganguly will also attain a unique milestone, as he will become the second Indian Test skipper to hold the highest post in the Indian cricket body. Which means he will be repeating a unique double in the history of Indian cricket. The first Indian skipper to become the BCCI President was Maharajkumar of Vizianagram. Sunil Gavaskar was also appointed as an interim president, but was never appointed on a full-time basis.

Furthermore, Sourav Ganguly may go through conflict of interest probe by BCCI ethics officer DK Jain, as he has an connection with Delhi Capitals. He is expected to resign from all such posts of conflict ahead of filing he nomination.
