Shahrukh Khan, Gautam Gambhir and Sunil Narine, the story behind the curtains
Shahrukh Khan, Gautam Gambhir and Sunil Narine, the story behind the curtains
Former skipper of Delhi Daredevils has a great sense of the game of the cricket and stating this fact is nothing but stating the obvious. He is one of the best batsmen the Indian team has ever seen. The contribution he has made to the shortest format of the game is incomparable. The role he played in taking Kolkata Knight Riders to two title wins has been quintessential. He built the team Kolkata from scratch and converted it into a match-winning squad. However, the ongoing IPL season has been a disaster for Gautam Gambhir. His team Delhi Daredevils have been eliminated from the tournament and they have been the first to make an exit.
In the 2018 auction, the Kolkata Knight Riders decided to not retain their former captain who got them two titles. However, Gautam Gambhir was bought by DD and appointed to lead the team which he could not do very well this year.
Sunil Narine is presently the most valuable player for the KKR who has been consistently performing with his bat and ball as well. According to media reports, it was Gautam Gambhir who roped him in the team recognizing his potential at a time when Shahrukh Khan did not even know the name of the player.
Gautam Gambhir conveyed this to the team management and Shahrukh, we need this player in our team no matter how much we have to spend to get him in our team. Sunil Narine was thus bought for an amount of 4.71 crores while his base price was only 33 lakh rupees.
Sunil Narine had played just one match till then and he was surprised after he came to know that he had been bought by the KKR.
