Shahid Afridi makes another controversial remark: 'Would like to lead team called Kashmir in my last season'
The Kashmir issue has always been a talking point for India and Pakistan. The two nations have been at the loggerheads in respect of Kashmir since independence. While many try to keep themselves away from the matter, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has always been relatively vociferous on the issue.
Not long ago, Afridi’s remarks on India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave rise to massive controversy and anger among Indian cricketers, such as Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan, Gambhir and so on. In addition, Harbhajan and Yuvraj expressed regret for helping Afridi with donation.
In his recent visit to POK, the former Pakistan skipper not only made heads turn with his remark on PM Modi but also expressed his desire to lead team Kashmir in the Pakistan Premier League.
"I'll make use of this opportunity and request the Pakistan Cricket Board that next time when they host the PSL, a new team with the name of Kashmir should be included in it. And I would like to lead that Kashmir team in my final year. I request the PCB that the next franchise should be called Kashmir,” Afridi said.
"If there is a stadium here then there should be a cricket academy as well and I'm willing to travel from Karachi to help run the academy here. I've heard there are 125 clubs in this region so there should be a tournament between those teams. I would be happy to come here and watch the matches." He added, "The worthy players from that tournament, I'm willing to take them to Karachi with me. They can stay with me, practice with me and also get their education,” he added.
It will be captivating to see if more Indian cricketers will join in to criticize Afridi for his comments on Kashmir. Afridi was last seen on the field for Multan Sultans during PSL 2020, which got held off before the knockout stage because of the coronavirus.
