Rashid Khan shatters Tatenda Taibu’s 15 year old world record
Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan led his national side for the first time in a Test match and has shattered a 15 year old milestone to become the youngest cricketer to steer a team in the longest format of the game.
He smashed the milestone during Afghanistan’s Test match against Bangladesh. Rashid has now shattered Zimbabwe’s Tatenda Taibu’s record which was laid down in 2004.
The spinner accomplished the record at the age of 20 years and 350 days old, while Tatenda Taibu had it when he was 20 years and 358 days.
Afghanistan attained their Test status in 2017 but didn’t get a perfect start in red ball cricket as they were beaten by India within two days in their maiden Test game. In their next game, Afghanistan was able to outdo Ireland by 7 wickets.
Following Afghanistan’s disappointing World Cup campaign in England earlier this year, Rashid Khan was dubed as skipper for all formats of the game.
Afghanistan didn’t win a single game in the quadrennial event.
