Pravin Tambe barred from competing in IPL 2020 as he failed to meet criteria set by BCCI
During the 2020 IPL auction, veteran Pravin Tambe experienced a huge encouragement after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) acquired him at his base price of Rs 20 lakh and thus, provided him an opportunity to revive his T20 career.
The 48-year-old was the oldest player to take part in the IPL auction 2020.
Pravin Tambe made his IPL debut ahead of first class cricket. He was a member of the Rajasthan Royals squad for three seasons before the team was banned for two years. In 2016, Tambe was part of now outmoded Gujarat Lions.
According to the directives put down by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), no non retired cricketer could take part in overseas league, hence, Tambe won’t be allowed to play in the upcoming season of the IPL.
For the reason that, Tambe played in the 2019 Abu Dhabhi T20 League, he dosen’t adhere to the criterion of playing the IPL. “As per Board policy, only retired players can take part in overseas leagues,” a source was quoted as saying in TOI.
Nevertheless, the 48-year-old will be disappointed in missing out on the forthcoming IPL season for the Kolkata based team. KKR had brought in some big names to their line up during the auction, including the likes of Pat Cummins, Eoin Morgan, Tom Banton, Chris Green and Varun Chakravarthy.
