Mumbai police rejects reports of threats on IPL cricketers as 'fake news'

Mumbai city police on Saturday confirmed that there is no threat on Indian Premier League players and Wankhede Stadium. The cleared the air about the terror threat and said that a fake news was being circulated that a terror plot is being planned against IPL players.

“There is no specific intelligence input about the threat to Wankhede Stadium during the IPL matches," Mumbai police spokesperson DCP Manjunath Singe said. “Mumbai police has been taking and will always take highest possible security measures to keep the city safe,” he added.

It was reported that security agencies were on high alert after a secret source informed them about the terror attack being planned against cricketers amidst of IPL. It was also reported that Anti-terror squad (ATS) beefed up security for players and asked them to not leave the hotel alone.

Mumbai police urged people not to believe and spread fake news. And asked media organisation to report responsibly.

Mumbai Indians will take on Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium today. Mumbai Indians are sitting at number three on the points table with eight points, while Rajasthan Royals are at seventh position with just two points, having won only one out of the six matches they played. Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to bowl first against Mumbai Indians.
